The Vermont South Community News was first published by the Vermont South Community Association as a means of informing the residents, in the newly formed suburb of Vermont South, of the work of the Association. The Association was concerned with the development of community facilities in the local area such as primary and secondary schools, the shopping centre and other community facilities and infrastructure such as public transport and effective street signs and lighting.
The newsletter became the communication tool of the community and when the Vermont South Community Association disbanded in 1987, Vermont South Community House took over the production. The newsletter has been collated and delivered by volunteers, rain, hail or shine, to the 4,000 homes in Vermont South every month except January since 1976. It remains today a most invaluable means of outreach and a way of bringing the community closer together.
